Planning for Henna

Pre-Appointment Checklist:

  • Your appointment should be 2-3 days BEFORE a special occasion. Henna takes 48-72 hours to mature to its darkest color.

  • Shave or wax (if necessary) at least 24 hours before your appointment to give the skin time to heal.

  • Manicures should be done before henna application.

  • Shower before your appointment. After henna, avoid contact with water for 24 hours for the best stain results.

  • Spray Tan AFTER your henna - NOT before! The spray will block contact between the skin and the henna paste.

On the day of your appointment:

  • Wear appropriate clothing. Remember, at first, the henna will be wet; and after it dries, it should not be disturbed for several hours.

  • Consider wearing short sleeves, a strappy or backless top, or flip-flops.

  • During application, do not talk on your phone or talk with your hands. The less you move, the quicker and neater the henna design will come out.

  • Have your payment method easily accessible. If your hands have henna, you don't want to dig in your bag!

  • Plan some extra time to let the henna dry. After application, plan to spend about 20 extra minutes for dry time. Add some additional time if you plan to have the design wrapped.

  • Consider bringing a friend to drive you. The less you have to do, the better your henna will stay in place. After you get henna, you should be pampered anyway!

  • Do not shower or go in a chlorine pool on your appointment day!
